Can You Have a Good Divorce?

Yes! And don’t be put off by the word ‘good’ in this context, the divorce process can be a tough and emotional transition but it can also be respectful, fair and kind, and that’s what we mean by a ‘good’ divorce.

We were recently asked by Harper’s Bazaar the simple question:

‘Can you have a good divorce?’

We’ve linked the article but the short answer is: YES!

But it’s important to define what ‘good’ means in this context.

The ending of any intimate relationship can be raw and painful. There is nothing any lawyer can do to ameliorate that, which is why we always encourage our couples to seek emotional support from the right people- not lawyers, but friends, family, separation counsellors and therapists.

But when it comes to the legal process, there is much that lawyers can do to make the process fair, respectful and kind. Which is why we work with couples together (and only ever work with couples together). So that, if joint advice is right for them, we help them navigate to the definition of ‘good’ divorce that is achievable for their family.
