The latest family court statistics have just been published and they show that the number of cases started in the Family Courts has increased, and the average time taken for divorce cases to work through the system has also increased.
It now takes on average 56 weeks to get to Decree Absolute (the final legal stage in a divorce). This underlines the need for separating couples, at the earliest opportunity, to engage constructively in discussions together around the right outcomes for their family as a whole in terms of financial arrangements and/or the care of their children. Contested court proceedings cause a huge amount of delay, cost and stress, which can be avoided if separating couples are supported to work together.
