Our co-founders were delighted to attend the launch of the Online Procedure Rule Committee (‘OPRC’), introduced by the Lord Chancellor Alex Chalk KC MP.
The OPRC has been established by Parliament to oversee the introduction of a Digital Justice System extending right across the civil, family and tribunals jurisdictions. The aim is to deliver a digitally-enabled, streamlined and user-friendly system to support those involved in legal disputes to achieve the earliest resolution. The programme will embrace early legal support and advice, dispute resolution and litigation, all supported by specially-designed digital processes. The Committee will devise a body of rules and guidance for the governance and implementation of those processes and their interaction with existing procedures as governed by the rules in the separate civil, family and tribunals jurisdictions.
The OPRC has a hugely impressive panel of members, including the Master of the Rolls, Sir Geoffrey Vos, Sir Andrew McFarlane, President of the Family Division, Sir Keith Lindblom, Senior President of Tribunals, Brett Dixon, legal expert, Sarah Stephens, expert in the lay advice sector and Gerard Boyers, technology expert.
This is a hugely exciting project which has the potential to enable more people to resolve their disputes early and get the timely and specialist support they need, drawing on the legal tech sector. We are excited to see where it leads!
