What Are ‘Needs’ In Financial Cases?

There is no one size fits all answer…
There is no one ‘needs’, like beauty, they are in the eye of the beholder…
So they mean different things in different cases.

When deciding a fair division of financial resources, the court has to consider what each spouse will need. Housing is usually the most central issue, with income and adequate provision in retirement following shortly behind.

But the extent of your needs depends on various factors including the scale of your resources and, in particular, the standard of living during the marriage. Usually, however, that can’t be replicated and so it’s a question of stretching whatever is available as far as possible.
