What Are ‘Prenups’?

Prenups are legal documents entered into before marriage with the aim of regulating what happens to your finances if you later separate. Many of us will think of them as something just for celebrities, or the very rich. In Europe, Prenups are extremely common and in recent years have become increasingly mainstream over here too.

Obviously, whether you would benefit from a Prenup depends to some extent on the complexity and scale of your finances. They are most often used as a means of trying to protect financial resources one of you brings into the marriage, for example inheritances, or savings built up many years before.
